So true. Despite the fact that CDs had replaced records by the time I hit the “going to the record store to buy new music” age, I still remember the excitement of album release dates. However, my brother had a friend who worked with a few labels, so getting pre-release albums from him was my early taste of “the leak”. Ever since, working in the industry has ruined me, as I’m always expecting to hear an album before it comes out, and the social aspect is totally lost. Instead, it was replaced by oink, torrents and desperate blog searches.
New 2009 resolution: only listen to records when they are released on vinyl…
