For some reason, the early computer users wanted to hide the fact that a computer was doing much of the work. It would take a couple of years before people would consider it a status symbol to show off the fact that they were using a computer. The professional typewritten look was called “letter quality” in the industry, and one of our goals for WordPerfect 3.0 was to print a letter that looked as good as one typed on an IBM Executive typewriter. ”
I’d heard this before but it’s still crazy to think that moving technology forward always requires handholding those who will eventually become obsolete.
